Abraham Moon textiles: luxury home furnishings

One of the textiles I use for my art work is ABRAHAM MOON, renowned for their consistent quality and innovative design. Here is a little bit of history behind the classic cloth:

Abraham Moon Fabrics
Abraham Moon History

The company was founded in 1837 by Abraham Moon, of Guiseley on the Northen fringes of Leeds. He would supply the local families with yarn to weave in their hand looms and later collect the pieces to then finish and sell on to market.  In 1877 Abraham's son Isaac took over the business and by the start of the 1900s, Isaac had successfully built a larger single storey mill. This mill was now a fully vertical mill, meaning that all the manufacturing took place under one roof, from the raw wool, through to dyeing , spinning all the way throw to finishing the fabric. The mill is one of the last standing vertical woollen mills in the UK.In 1920, the Moon family sold their company to Charles Walsh who was design and mill manager at the time. The company has stayed within the family since.image courtesy of www.moons.co.ukThe mill very successfully competed in a very competitive market throughout the 1990s, upholding their reputation for producing a luxury, up market, quality product.Customers include major international brands such as Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith and Burberry. In 2009, Bronte Tweeds was purchased by Abraham Moon & Sons. This combination of expertise, knowledge and skills within the market has seen an exponential growth since. The company continues to grow from strength to strength to this day and the fabric can been seen in luxury boutique accessories such as cushions an throws as well as incorporated into furnishings, carpets and interiors.
