FAQ

  • What is digital printing?

Printing digitally uses half the ink of screen printing methods and results in far less waste being discharged into the drains. There is no washing of screens or changing colours, so water consumption is reduced by approximately half. Carbon emissions are reduced still further, with road travel removed from the process—there are no screens to transport for printing, as everything is done by email.

  • I would like made-to-measure curtains in your fabric. Can you help me with this?

Yes, we work closely with an experienced curtain and blind maker here in Edinburgh who can offer a measure service at your home. This gives the opportunity to discuss your made to measure product for you, whether that be curtains, roman blinds, tracks, poles and accessories.

  • How do you hang wallpapers?

Walls should be dry, clean and even. Remove any old wallpaper and loose paint. Roughen painted surfaces with sandpaper. For best results, we recommend that walls are cross lined using a good quality lining paper. Sizing the lining paper will aid adhesion. Lining should be allowed to dry out completely before hanging the wall covering. Our wallpapers are a paste the wall product. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wall covering. A good quality, solvent free, fungicide protected ready-mixed ‘tub’ adhesive should be used.

  • What wallpaper paste do you recommend?

Best Paste is Halls Beeline Yellow Lid (ready mixed) or Solvite Paste the Wall Wallpaper Adhesive.

  • Are unopened wallpaper rolls returnable?

Unfortunately we cannot accept back excess wallpaper rolls due to the risk of damage in transit.

  • What is your fabric and wallpaper lead time?

Although we keep a small amount of stock, the majority of Mairi Helena fabrics and wallpapers are printed specially for you. Please allow 2-4 weeks for wallpaper orders and 5-6 weeks for fabric orders.
