Any excuse and I’m out there in the photogenic colourful landscapes of Scotland with my trusty Nikon wrapped around my neck and purple wellies on my feet. Scotland is an abundance of colour throughout any season it seems. I’m so inspired by this rustic, authentic and vibrant countryside colour palette which I’m so lucky to have on my doorstep. Scotland’s landscapes act as such a strong source of inspiration for many Scottish artists and designers across the country.
Scotland in Colour
And so it was as a result of a recent photography trip to Scotland’s rich heather covered Lammermuir hills to photography my Mairi Helena Silk Scarves, that inspired me to create a blog post entitled:
‘Photographing Scotland in Rainbow Colours’
Nothing is quite as uplifting, as powerfully vibrant and as brilliantly scarlet red as bold tulips appearing in flowerbeds, packing a punch of colour for Spring.
Head to Scotland’s West Coast where the sunsets are truly spectacular.
Top Tip: Take a trip to the Outer Hebrides, find a solitary camping spot and set up camp next to the sea, listen to the waves and watch the sun go down. The ultimate best way to unwind as I discovered earlier this Summer.
Blazing Scottish Gorse
Think Yellow, Think Gorse! I certainly do anyway as it reminds me of our wedding day with the striking yellow gorse blazing across the Eildon Hills in Melrose, Scottish Borders.

Green Green Grass of Home
Scotland is known for it’s lush green landscapes, flush from the rain! Some of the most amazingly colourful Scottish landscapes can be found along the picturesque West Coast. Featured above; Isle of Harris on the left and the Silver Sands white beaches of Arising, near to Mallaig.

Scotland’s Bluebell Woods
Take a stroll through Scotland’s woods in the Spring time and discover these delicate bluebells covering the woodland floors. Catch the light coming through the trees first thing in the morning to appreciate them at their very best!
Scotland’s Small Isles and Indigo Seas
If you’re looking for clear indigo blue seas then jump on the ferry from Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull to land on the beautiful Isle of Iona.
Top Tip: Take a trip to Martyr’s Bay Gift Shop to discover the island’s own ‘Sound of Iona Tartan‘ which takes inspiration from the colours of the island’s landscapes.
Scottish Heather; the inspiration to my blog.
Nothing beats the charm of Scotland’s glorious heather stretched across the hills. Appearing for a short time frame into the month of August, these iconic purple heather heads turn Scotland’s landscapes into a vivid purple carpet.

I hope you enjoy!
