I was intrigued by a fab post over on Apartment Therapy recently on Home Horoscopes: The Best Colours for Your Zodiac Sign. My birthday is in June making me a Cancerarian which according to the Apartment Therapy home horoscopes, is a “deep, intuitive and sentimental star sign, definitely ready to get down with some jewel tones. Look for amethyst-inspired hues..”

Ooh, I thought, I like that very much. Jewel tones, purples, warm pinks, teal blues…and just like that, I was off making mood boards again!

Decorating your Living Room with Statement Pinks

And so to the topic of purples and pinks, and ways in which you can pull together colour to create statement living rooms with a wow factor. And I’m not meaning that you have to go all out and paint your walls in Crown ‘Shocking Pink’…! Far from it! I’m thinking more along the lines of using accents of hues and the ways in which we can introduce tones as ‘colour stories’  in your home, creating powerful but liveable impact.

Classy is all about subtlety after all, a ‘less is more’ approach.

So here’s some deep, warm statement pinks to get us started. Get out your Farrow and Ball paint chart out and flick to the pink tones. Which paint colour are you immediately drawn too?

Choose a pink to act as your accent colour. This gives you a focus when picking out your accessories and soft furnishings in which to decorate and style your room with. Perhaps you’ll go for a warm pink like Cole & Son’s have done very cleverly here, where they have styled around the theme of their ‘Vermicelli Curio’ wall covering which acts so stylishly in the background, creating a powerful statement wall.

TIMELESS FEEL

Whether you work with your pink paint colour choice or wallpaper on the wall or opt for a neutral and use your pink colour to just add flushes of detail in the soft furnishings and fabric is entirely up to you. Both will be fabulous. Look how well Farrow and Ball’s Blazer complements the calming warm undertones of Dimity:

Working with a neutral tone alongside a colour I always find helps to create a sophisticated, elegant and well balanced interior.

I came across this beautiful Milan apartment interior in Homes and Gardens magazine and immediately added it to my story board alongside my thistle velvet fabrics. I was drawn to the exquisite interior decor due to its clever colour palette. The dusky purple walls ooze warmth and timeless sophistication. Accents of colour pop across the page, from the vibrant pink feather wall art, to the highlights of gold in the cushions and uplight lamp in the corner. Mix pinks, with warm greys and hints of purples and you’re on to a winner.

STEP IT UP WITH THE GOLD FOR OPULENCE

Well I certainly don’t need any encouragement whenever it comes to clever ways of adding a touch of gold opulence to an interior. Perhaps it’s the rustic shimmer but gold immediately helps to add grandeur and sophistication to a room interior. Especially when it meets silks and velvets…

COOLING OFF WITH PINKS

If you’re after a luxurious pad but are thinking more along the lines of cooler tones and want to work in the pinks, then consider a more blue grey base. Blue greys and dusky pinks can work well together and can be very effective in setting off against each other to create a stylishly homely interior.

Now it’s your turn to pull out the pink

So we’ve pondered over the Farrow and Ball paint chart, considered how to work pink with warm tones and cold tones and added accents of gold to add a flush of opulence. I hope that I’ve given you a flush of pink to the cheeks and that you’re now super charged and set with the paintbrush.
